Pellet production facility has been launched in Sokol, Vologda Region.

29.11.2021 11:03

Segezha Group, a leading Russian vertically integrated holding company in the forest industry finished the construction of a pellet production facility at Sokol Woodworking Plant. The new facility will turn by-products and wood waste into biofuel pellets. Vologda Region Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov took part in the solemn launch of the new production line.

The new facility will produce 65 thousand tons of pellets every year. About RUB 1 bln was invested in this project. The essential equipment was supplied by Hekotek, an Estonia-based company. By-products of woodworking are used as raw materials.

The pellet facilities will expand the enterprise's product line and increase the sustainability of the plant by serving as a crucial part of the closed production cycle.

Mikhail Shamolin, Segezha Group President: “Pellets come from deep wood processing and they are in high demand on the global market. The new production line will improve product margins and help us produce a greater volume of eco-friendly products, which will make the Sokol Woodworking Plant one of the “greenest” manufacturing enterprises in Russia. Making the switch to biofuel in our boiler rooms reduces greenhouse gas emissions and provides a clear environmental benefit.”

The biofuel pellets that Segezha Group manufactures from renewable natural raw materials are used in automated boiler rooms for heating public buildings and single-family houses.

Vologda Region Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov said that the local government supports projects of Segezha Group and thanked the company for effective cooperation in the development of the Vologda Region's forest complex.
