Over 5000 Russian and foreign tourists travelled to Ferapontovo to admire the old architecture and wall painting of Ferapontov Monastery during New Year holidays.
The Ferapontov Monastery, a place of great historical significance, is among a small group of Russian cultural sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This honor was bestowed on the monastery primarily as recognition of the early 16th-century frescoes in the monastery's Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin. These paintings are considered among the greatest examples of medieval Russian art.
All the interior walls of the cathedral are covered with invaluable frescoes by the great medieval painter Dionisy and date back to 1502.
Over 5000 people from Russian Regions and from France travelled to Ferapontovo to admire the old architecture and wall painting of the monastery during New Year holidays.
One of the most appealing elements of the Ferapontov Monastery is its natural setting, surrounded by lakes and forests that convey the lyrical beauty of the Russian north. Russia’s most beautiful medieval frescoes are also a magnet for tourists.
