Oleg Kuvshinnikov paid a working visit to the District of Vytegra on October 10th.
Oleg Kuvshinnikov arrived in the District of Vytegra to inspect economic and social development of the district, the most important infrastructure facilities of the District and to get acquainted with the plans for their development.
The Vologda Oblast boasts its own "Switzerland" - the district of Vytegra which connects the Leningrad Oblast with Onega Lake. Vytegra has been known since 1710 as a village of Vyangi at the confluence of the Vytegra and the Vyangi Rivers. In 1773 the settlement was transformed into a town of Vytegra. It is a town in the north-western part of the Vologda Oblast, located along the shores of the Vytegra River on Volgo-Baltic Waterway.
It borders on Republic of Karelia in the north, the Arkhangelsk Oblast in the east, the Leningrad Oblast to the west, the districts of Kirillov, Belozersk, Vashki within the Vologda Oblast.
In the branch structure of industry, timber industry takes a dominating position. Agriculture is also a clear dominant in the district's economy. By virtue of natural conditions and economic factors, grain-, potato-growing and cattle-breeding are clearly expressed specializations of the district.
The program of the visit was extensive. It included inspection of a concert hall, a cultural centre, a gymnasium, a local school, roads of the district, and participation in a meeting of the City Planning Council.
The visit of Oleg Kuvshinnikov to the District of Vytegra wound up with a meeting with the population of the district.
