An American delegation visited Totma, the birthplace of Ivan Kuskov, Commerce Counsellor of the Russian-American Company.
Leading Russian and US experts, scientists, businessmen, and diplomats arrived in the Vologda Region to participate in an international conference Fort Ross Dialogue in Vologda on June 3-4.
Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Yury Vorobyov, Special Representative of Russian President Mikhail Shvydkoy, President of Transneft Company Nikolay Tokarev, Head of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research Vladimir Panchenko, Director of the Institute for the US and Canadian Studies of Russian Academy of Sciences Valery Garbuzov, President & CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia Alexis Rodzianko, representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry and the US Embassy in Moscow are to participated in the forum.
On June 1st the members of the American delegation paid a visit to Totma, the birthplace of Ivan Kuskov, Commerce Counsellor of the Russian-American Company and founder of Fort Ross. Fort Ross, the southernmost Russian settlement in North America located on California's Sonoma County Coast two hours' driving time north of San Francisco, was founded at the very beginning of the 19th century. Now it is a historic landmark and part of the State Historic Park in California.
Excursions at local museums and a walking tour through the historical part of Totma impressed the American guests.
The lilacs, the picturesque bank of the Sukhona River and the river itself pleased the Americans and their stay in the town lasted much longer than planned.
