Yulia Chekaleva (Vologda, Russia) won first World Cup event in Rybinsk.

Yulia Chekaleva, an athlete from the Vologda Region made it a Russian World Cup double with victory in the women's 15km skiathlon (7,5 km classical style and 7,5 km freestyle) in Rybinsk, Russia.

On home snow she picked up her first-ever World Cup win. In the end the margin was comfortable for Chekaleva who finished with a time of 44:16.0, 15.6 seconds in front of second place Martine Ek Hagen of Norway and 22.9 ahead of Finland's Riitta Liissa Roponen.

Chekaleva attacked midway through the race and skied alone to victory for the final half.
