Meeting of Vologda Region Govenor with Dr Hans Henri P. Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe

Vologda Region Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov saw Dr Hans Henri P. Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Duting the meeting Oleg Kuvshinnikov proposed to create an international platform for new forms of development cooperation to promote the WHO project "Healthy Cities". Mr. Kuvshinnikov heads the Russian National Network Association of Healthy Cities, Regions and Settlements that comprises 123 municipalities with a population of 18 mln people. The Russian network of Healthy Cities has been operating since 2010. It gathered 7 cities-members at that time. It is clearly visible that the Russian Association of Healthy Cities is active and rapidly growing.

According to the head of the Vologda Region, the platform for the development of new forms and mechanisms of cooperation is necessary for the exchange of experience, promotion of WHO initiatives and development of national networks of the WHO project "Healthy Cities" in Eastern Europe and Asia. “I am convinced that through the concerted efforts we will be able to achieve the main goal - improvement of the quality of life of the population and creation of a health-saving space in the WHO European Region,” stressed Oleg Kuvshinnikov. The strengthening of public health has become a strategic priority for the development of the Vologda Region.

"We will provide all the necessary help and support. COVID-19 has given us an opportunity to transform the global health community's acceptance amid coronavirus pandemic. You have done a great, and I believe that this experience should be shared with other countries," Hans Kluge said.
