The Governor started his visit with a museum devoted to life and creativity of Alexander Yashin (1913-1968), the renowned Russian poet, the native of the city of Nikolsk of the Vologda Region.

Oleg Kuvshinnikov came to Bobrishny Ugor of Alexander Yashin in the village of Bludnovo where Alexander Yashin was born. He was deeply impressed by the amiable atmosphere, scenic and picturesque landscapes in the village and the memorial museum devoted to the poet. Mr. Kuvshinnikov was happy that the residents of the District of Nikolsk revere Yashin’s memory.

The Governor believes that this spot may become a magnet for tourists where they can experience the region, understand the cultural influences and see the world through the years of the local people. Experienced local guides enrich each tour, unfold the life of Alexander Yashin, his works, and history of the museum sharing stories and personal experiences.

Over the last five years the number of tourists coming to the birthplace of the famous Russian poet increased from 5,000 to 33,000 people. The Vologda Governor stressed that tourism is regarded as the priority for the economic development of the Region. Every year about 2 million tourist visit the Vologda Region. The main goals and objectives of the Vologda Oblast Government are to develop the region’s image and promote as the tourism destination worldwide. For this purpose, tourism experts from the Vologda Oblast actively participate in the tourism fairs and exhibitions both in Russia and abroad. The local government is also actively engaged in promotion of domestic tourism issues implementing various projects.
