Several types of economic activities were identified as priorities at a meeting of the Governor’s Investment Council.
Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov approved of a list of main economic activities which are extremely important for increasing economic growth of each municipality of the Vologda area. Regional corridors of development that are endorsed by the Strategy of Socio-Economic Development of the Vologda Oblast up to 2020 were of assistance in determining what branches of economy to develop. They are deep wood processing, hospitality industry and tourism.
The western corridor Kirillov-Belozersk-Lipin Bor-Vytegra specializes on processing of coniferous wood and recreation businesses. The northern corridor Vokhtoga-Gryazovets-Sokol-Kharovsk-Vozhega focuses on deep processing of coniferous and non- coniferous wood. The eastern corridor Tot’ma-Nyuksenitsa-Veliky Ustyug specializes on deciduous wood processing and development of tourism sphere.
During the meeting of the Investment Council, Mr. Kuvshinnikov briefed on investment climate and defined guidelines ensuring a favourable climate for economic activity of the region up to 2015.
The parties involved also discussed new investment projects to be implemented on the territory of the Vologda Oblast ranging from modernization of hemodialysis unit at a local hospital to production of feta cheese to modernization of canned berries production line to construction of a factory producing wooden window frames.
The members of the Investment Council approved of all projects and recommended to indicate them as priorities for Vologda’s economic development.
