Oleg Kuvshinnikov to chair the Coordination Council of the Vologda branch of the Russian Geographical Society.
Today Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov attended a meeting of the Russian Geographical Society’s division in Vologda where it was suggested that the Governor should chair the Coordination Council of the Vologda branch of the Russian Geographical Society.
Cooperation between the Russian Geographical Society and the Government of Vologda Region resulted in partnership projects in such spheres as science, education, culture, tourism, mass media and exchange programmes.
The Vologda branch of the Russian Geographical Society received a grant to implement a project devoted to bicentennial celebrations in Fort Ross, the first Russian settlement in California, and visits of local Kashaya tribe to Tot’ma (Vologda Oblast) where Ivan Kuskov, who founded the first Russian settlement in America, was born.
The top leadership of the Vologda Oblast stressed the fact that the Vologda Region places priority on partnership links with the Russian Geographical Society as it helps promote Russia' s historical, cultural and geographical heritage. The Russian Geographical Society has all reasons to become an intellectual leader in studying and promoting national geography and encourage scientific creativity not only in the academia but also at the grassroots level.
