Tourist project Silver Necklace of Russia
In 2015 the authorities of the Vologda Oblast jointly with the Russian Ministry of Culture have decided to launch a tourism project “Silver Necklace of Russia” in the region.
Silver Necklace of Russia is implemented with an active support of the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Federal Tourism Agency.
Silver Necklace of Russia is a unique tourism product (brand) consisting of chain of routes crossing ancient Russian cities with unique historical and cultural heritage of Northwest Russia. The Silver Necklace of Russia is a tourist project across 11 regions of the Russian Federation.
The tourist project Silver Necklace of Russia covers the territories of Leningrad, Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Kaliningrad, Murmansk, Pskov, Novgorod regions, Saint Petersburg, the Republic of Karelia and the Komi Republic, Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Tourist routes of the project are not limited in terms of subject, sequence, duration.
Silver Necklace consists of a set of routes that combine historical cities and territories, regional centers, large population points of the Northwestern Federal District, which has the unique monuments of history, culture and nature included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Eight cities of the Vologda Region are part of the Silver Necklace of Russia project. They are Vologda, Cherepovets, Belozersk, Tot’ma, Veliky Ustyug, Vytegra, Kirillov and Ustyuzhna.
The joint project will focus on the tourist and recreational cluster. The Silver Necklace offers various types of tourism, including cultural and educational tours and pilgrimages, which are popular among Russian tourists.
In summer 2016 the Silver Necklace of Russia was presented in France, China, Spain, Iran, Finland and other countries. The Russian Culture Ministry believes that implementation of the project will contribute to developing tourism in the country.
