International Fair and Exhibition Russian Flax
The lace-making city of Vologda has long been known as an arts and crafts brand of Russia. The popularity of tatted snow-white patterns from Vologda spread far beyond the borders of Russia in the 19th century.
Every year Vologda becomes home to the International Fair and Exhibition "Russian Flax".
It is organized by the Vologda Oblast Government with the assistance of the RF Ministry of Industry and Trade and RF Ministry of Agriculture. The programme of the fair and exhibition includes:
- workshops on flax growing and processing;
- press-conferences, round-table discussions, sharing experiences;
- presentation of yarn, modern fabric, clothes, footwear, accesory, interior articles;
- display of flax-growing and flax-processing equipment, textile and light industry machinery;
- presentation of investment projects;
- competition of weavers of light industry enterprises.
Being held annually, it increases competitiveness of the flaxen products presented on the Russian market.
The scope of the exhibition is rather impressive: about 200 exhibitors from Russian regions, CIS countries and foreign participants from Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Latvia and Poland attend the exhibition. The Russian Flax, the exhibition-fair for flax cultivation, flax-growing and flax-processing equipment, yarn, fabric and clothes provides them with an opportunity to be engaged in discussions with other professionals.
The overall aim of the exhibition is to enable the participants to exchange opinions, experiences, good practices and resources related to flax growing and linen industry, and to ensure that the knowledge created is effectively shared and used in the Russian regions and worldwide.
Among honorary guests are President of Russian Silhouette Fund Tatyana Mikhalkova, General Director of the Fashion House, Professor Vyacheslav Zaitsev and fashion designer Valentin Yudashkin.
From June 23 through 25, 2011, the Exhibition Centre Russky Dom in Vologda hosted the 1st International Flax Festival, a festival for innovation technologies to be applied in the linen industry and manufacture of flax fibre.
In general, the International Flax Festival collected everything related to the world of linen industry: fabrics, clothes, textile, souvenirs, as well as looms, spinning machines and accessories.
The program highlights included an international lace festival "VITA LACE", a competition among weavers, a competition "Silver Bobbin", a competition of fabric, clothes, footwear and accessories collection "Flax - in Goods of Russia", an exposition "Lace Labyrinth" and display of flax-growing and flax-processing equipment, textile and light industry machinery.
The exhibition program also included seminars and workshops encompassing almost all issues associated with the current domestic and world linen market state.
Trade visitors from 36 Russian regions and 18 countries attended the Flax Festival. Foreign companies from Belarus, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Canada, Latvia, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Australia and Ukraine displayed their products, equipment and achievements in flax cultivation and processing.
Vologda won a mention in the Russian Book of Records thanks to the most populous lace-making workshop that took place in Vologda on June 24, 2011. 570 lace-makers from different regions of Russia and foreign countries gave a master class in the art of lace-making in the city's central square. The members of 10 countries- Australia, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Ireland, Canada, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia as well as representatives from 24 Russian regions took part in this campaign.
Russian Flax, an international exhibition for innovation technologies to be applied in the linen industry and manufacture of flax fibre and flaxen goods, was held in Vologda from 1 to 4 March, 2014.
140 trade visitors from 18 Russian regions, Latvia, Ukraine and Belarus attended it.
The organizers announced a whole range of seminars, business meetings, round table discussions on a variety of issues relating to flax cultivation, its processing and innovations in design. The exhibition was also the setting for a number of award ceremonies.
