Under the laws that came into force on January 1, 2006 the administrative division of the Vologda Oblast includes:
- 2 city districts (Vologda and Cherepovets);
- 26 municipalities;
- 22 cities and towns;
- 322 settlements.
All in all the Vologda Oblast consists of 372 municipal areas of different organizational forms.
