Vologda Region is stepping up trade, economic and humanitarian ties with Slovenia.

On October 18th First Deputy Governor Anton Koltsov met with Branko Rakovec, Slovenian Ambassador to Russia. The parties discussed guidelines for trade and economic partnership ties.

Signing of the Memorandum on cooperation at the 21st St. Petersburg Economic Forum in 2017 boosted partnership ties between the Vologda Region and Slovenia. The Memorandum was signed by Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov and Zdravko Počivalšek, Slovenia’s Minister of Economic Development and Technology.

According to First Deputy Governor Anton Koltsov, the interaction of the Vologda Region and the Republic of Slovenia has been developed in the social, cultural and economic spheres. The Vologda Region ranks second after Moscow among the regions that supply goods to Slovenia. Slovenia ranks 30th among our trade partners. Both parties are interested in deepening mutually beneficial cooperation for common development.

Most of the exports from the Vologda Region is made up of mineral fertilizers. The Republic of Slovenia supplies paints and building materials, ferrous metals, metal tools and cutlery to the Vologda Region.

Representatives of the Republic of Slovenia take part in international events held in the Vologda Region - VOICES Film Festival, Vita Lace Festival, Cherepovets Industrial Forum and an International Fair and Exhibition Russian Wood.

This year, lace-makers from Slovenia participated in an international action "Under the Lace Sky" organized by the Vologda State Museum-Reserve devoted to 60th anniversary of the first human flight into space. The participants of the event from all over the world made more than 800 lace stars made of metallic threads of golden or silver colors. An art object "Under the Lace Sky" was presented in the bell tower of St. Sophia Cathedral, Vologda.

The Vologda City Administration aims at promoting sister relations with foreign municipalities. Vologda might become a twin city of Slovenian city of Idrija. Town-twinning as a form of municipal international cooperation will contribute to the development of economic cooperation and strengthen cultural ties.
