Vologda Region Governor is participating in a forum with international participation “Healthy cities of Russia in post-pandemic period: main threats to public health”.
During three days Russian and foreign experts will discuss topical issues of health care, demographic and family policy at the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation in a remote format.
The forum is timed to coincide with the 10th anniversary of foundation of the Association of Healthy Cities, Regions and Settlements. Vologda Region Governor Mr. Kuvshinnikov heads the Russian National Network Association of Healthy Cities, Regions and Settlements that comprises over 100 municipalities with a population of 16 mln people. The Russian network of Healthy Cities has been operating since 2010. It gathered 7 cities-members at that time. It is clearly visible that the Russian Association of Healthy Cities is active and rapidly growing.
At the plenary meeting, the participants of the forum considered demographic risks that may have a negative impact on Russia's development during the next decade.
Our main focus now is on the fight against the pandemic. This is a challenge that the whole world is facing, and the member cities of the Association of Healthy Cities, Regions and Settlements should share the best practices to overcome it. But at the same time, we must constantly work to achieve a top national priority defined by the Russian President - preservation and increase of Russia's population.
Ms. Monika Kosinska from the WHO (Programme Manager, Governance for Health Division of Policy and Governance for Health and Well-being) underlined that problems that have a significant impact on public health include alcoholism, smoking, and obesity.
According to UN analysts, in ten years Russia will take the 18th place in terms of population. Taking into account the occupied area, it will become a national security issue. At the same time, the level of reproductive health care facilities throughout the country is growing with every passing year, modern perinatal centers are being built in the regions, high-tech medical care is being developed, and infant and maternal mortality has decreased by more than 4 times. The experts explain the drop in the birth rate by insufficient primary prevention and the weakening of family values.
It is necessary to resist the propaganda of irresponsibility and form a different line of behavior. Children are born in a family, and this is the main value. Just the same with health - it is impossible to improve it without involvement of a person himself. By using and wearing a mask correctly, you can protect others from infection because an infected person can already be contagious without knowing it before symptoms appear. A person's involvement in self-preservation is necessary to prevent himself from getting sick. In the first place comes the person himself, and not the system that ensures the provision of necessary medical assistance and health care.
Making people healthier and developing medical science are rightly among government policy’s top priorities. There is an undisputed need for greater cooperation between the authorities, public organisations and business circles in this area. The Association’s programmes and major projects and initiatives carried out in many different parts of Russia help to educate the public, promote a healthy way of life, and improve the demographic situation. The Russian National Network Association of Healthy Cities, Regions and Settlements also spreads the use of modern effective diagnosis, prevention and treatment methods in medical practice.
