Vologda Oblast is taking part in the National Competition for Regional Food Brands "Tastes of Russia".
The “Tastes of Russia” competition opens up prospects for the development of regional brands and rural areas. The competition is aimed at popularizing unique products produced in Russian regions.
The national competition is carried out for the third time. It is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation. The competition is a part of a complex of actions for support of food branding. It is aimed to open regional gastronomic brands, and to acquaint consumers with a variety of unique Russian tastes.
Last year Vologda (Vologodskoe) butter, a local brand won the National Competition for Regional Food Brands "Tastes of Russia". Vologda is famous for its dairy products. Just mention butter and quality together and every Russian will invariably reply "Vologda butter." Vologda butter is a traditional Russian product, with delicious walnutty taste and natural lightness.
Every region has its claim to fame. This year the Vologda Region is represented by eight brands - lemonade from Kirillov, a dish of Veps national cuisine (Babaevsky kalakurnik), a fish pie made of rye flour, two sorts of drinking water, Vologda bread, semi-smoked sausage, linseed oil and milk thistle oil. Competition is fierce among consumer brands, with thousands of new products introduced to the market each year.
