Production of sturgeon, catfish and trout has increased in the Vologda Region.

In the first half of 2020 fish farms of the region produced 288 tonnes of fish, 2.5 times more than in the same period last year. This information was presented at a meeting of the Vologda Region Fishery Council.

The online business meeting brought together the fishery councils for Lake Beloe, Lake Kubenskoye, Lake Onega, Lake Vozhe and Sheksna Reservoir, as these are the most valuable reservoirs in the Vologda Region in terms of fisheries.

In the first half of 2020, fish farms in our region produced 288 tonnes of commercial fish and a ton of fish planting material, which is almost 2.5 times more compared to the last year figure during the same period. At the end of 2019, 599 tonnes of these products were produced, which is 3.4 times more than in 2018.

The development of the fish farming industry has been accelerating in the region for six years. During this time the volume of commercial fish production has expanded seven times. Sturgeon, catfish and rainbow trout production has been increasing.

For example, 397.5 tonnes of sturgeon were produced in 2019 (nine times more than in 2018), 23.42 tonnes of catfish (2.3 times more than last year), 169.77 tonnes of trout (3.7 times more), and 18.7 tonnes of black caviar, as the press service of the North-West Territorial Administration of the Federal Agency for Fisheries reported.
