On May 16, Vologda State Museum-Preserve joined international campaign Night of Museums online.
On the night of May 16 to 17, museums across the world took part in the Long Night of Museums.
Night of Museums is an international event which annually is celebrated in Europe and America and dedicated to International Museum Day. Usually on this night, local cultural institutions stay open extra-late to celebrate culture, science, and education. Museums show visitors the behind-the-scenes action and display one-off exhibitions and performances.
This year Vologda's cultural institutions headed online in light of coronavirus concerns. Vologda’s museums joined international campaign Night of Museums online.
On this occasion, the Vologda State Museum-Preserve prepared a special program - exhibitions, concerts, performances and master classes. Vologda’s museums organized online excursions, academic readings, museum and theatre performances, and special activities for children.
The affiliates of the Vologda State Museum-Preserve - Museum of Architecture and Ethnography, Lace Museum, Memorial Museum of Peter I, Memorial estate of A.Mozhaisky, Museum "World of forgotten things" – participated in the international campaign Night of Museums online.
Of course, a trip to the theater, museum or art gallery is more enjoyable than virtual museum tours, live-streamed performances and digital broadcasts. But the experiment with holding the Night of Museums online was a success and it opened new opportunities for both visitors and museum staff.
