Investments in construction of cattle breeding farms - a strategic path for development of dairy cattle breeding in Vologda Region.
Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov visited a cattle breeding farm. A new dairy farm for almost 1000 heads of milk cows boasts modern equipment. Like other farms of the Vologda Oblast, a new farm uses automatic milking systems, also called voluntary milking.
New milking technology reduces the labour input during milking, resulting in a higher output per man-hour. It also leads to big changes for both farmers and cows. With automatic milking, the milking process does not require permanent supervision. Automatic milking places emphasis on the cow's motivation to visit the AM-system to be milked more or less voluntarily. For this reason, all AM-systems are equipped with concentrate dispensers.
The head of the region noted that construction of farms, introduction of modern technologies and a high level of selective breeding made it possible to achieve unprecedented milk yields in 2020 - 7969 kilograms of milk per a cow.
Dairy farming is the leading industry and dairy cattle breeding is considered the most promising direction of agriculture in the region.
