International Folk Crafts Festival “City of Crafts” has been postponed in line with a ban on large-scale events.

The International Folk Crafts Festival “City of Crafts” announced it would postpone until June 2021, taking into account the adverse epidemiological situation.

Last year Vologda City played host to the second edition of the International Folk Crafts Festival “City of Crafts” on June 14-16. The festival gathered craftsmen from 40 Russian regions and from 6 foreign countries - Germany, Belarus, Armenia, Estonia, Bulgaria and Uzbekistan.

Over 350 applications from artisans were received in the following categories - traditional female crafts, national costume, wooden and birch bark craft painting, valenki (kind of felt boots), wood engraving and wicker-work, blacksmithing, potter's craft and forgotten handicrafts.

The festival usually includes creative workshops, lectures and round table meetings where leading experts on folk culture share their ideas and projects.

This festival reveals to the audience the secrets of folk crafts in the heart of Vologda - Kremlin Square. Artisans show off their virtuosity in the following categories - traditional female crafts, wooden and birch bark craft painting, valenki (kind of felt boots), wood engraving and wicker-work, blacksmithing, potter's craft and forgotten handicrafts. In addition to it, a unique contest for national cuisine is held within the framework of the international festival “City of Crafts”.
