Head of the Department of Culture and Tourism congratulates tourism industry workers on World Tourism Day.
World Tourism Day, celebrated every 27 September around the world, is a unique opportunity to raise awareness on tourism’s actual and potential contribution to sustainable development.
World Tourism Day is the day to draw attention to how tourism can improve our world.
Since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has celebrated World Tourism Day as international observances on September 27. This date was chosen as on that day in 1970, the Statutes of the UNWTO were adopted. The adoption of these Statutes is considered a milestone in global tourism. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide.
Tourism, a key sector in the economy of the Vologda Region, is one of the priority directions of its socio-economic development. In order to attract attention to the cultural and historical potential, to promote the tourist potential of the Vologda Region, the local government is focused on the formation of tourist and recreational clusters, tourist brands, tourist itineraries and excursion programs in municipalities and urban districts of the region.
Among the popular specialities of the Vologda Oblast are the Northern niello, Vologda laces, coloured enamels with gold and silver veneer, carving on birch bark and the original technique of "tinplate frosting".
Fifteen cities and towns of the region - Vologda, Belozersk, Kirillov, Ferapontovo, Tot'ma, Ustyushna and others - preserved impressive structures and architectural ensembles that attract the ever-increasing numbers of visitors.
The nature of the Vologda Region is very picturesque. The lakes scattered throughout the region, the forests sprawling along the banks of slow-flowing rivers, the plains stretching away to the horizon have the charm of their own. Tourist will be captivated by the stern and romantic northern nature.
The Head of the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Vologda Region sincerely wished all the employees of the tourism industry good health, reliable partners, grateful tourists and professional achievements, and to all citizens of the Vologda Region and guests of the region - unforgettable impressions, interesting trips and bright emotions.
