Fort Ross Dialogue forum will be held in Vologda on June 3-4.
Since 2012 the venue of the annual international forum has always been the Fort Ross California Historic Park, founded by Russian merchants from the Vologda Region at the beginning of the 19th century. Its participants are Russian and American politicians, representatives of the Russian Geographical Society, experts and entrepreneurs from both countries.
Fort Ross Dialogue is an independent forum where Americans and Russians meet in a constructive atmosphere to encourage conversation and collaboration. This event is generously sponsored by Chevron, Transneft, and Sovcomflot.
In May 2017 the Fort-Ross Dialogue conference was first held in Russia (Pskov and Izborsk). Veliky Novgorod hosted it in May 2018. The participants of the forum were Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, Special Presidential Representative for International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoi, U.S. Ambassador to Russia John Tefft, President and CEO of the Fort Ross Conservancy Sarah Sweedler, authorities of Russian regions, prominent international experts.
The forum in Vologda will conduct discussions and seminars on major issues of the bilateral agenda, economic issues and interaction in various fields. The participants will cover a crucial problem of Fort Ross Park improvement. Politicians, entrepreneurs, cultural figures from Russia and the United States will discuss prospects for strengthening relations between the two countries.
The first day of the conference will be devoted to scientific and business diplomacy as an effective factor of "soft power" in Russian-American relations. Three panel discussions will focus on the features of "scientific diplomacy" in relations between Russia and the United States, on Russian and American universities as a platform for business and on the history of the Russian-American company of the 19th century.
On the second day of the conference, the participants will discuss artificial intelligence technologies, sanctions risks and Russian and American views on long-term trends in the development of relations between the two countries.
For the residents of the Vologda Region Fort Ross is not only a symbol of the Russian contribution to the development of America, it is also an opportunity to develop scientific, cultural and social ties between the Vologda Oblast Government, the state of California and in general between Russia and the United States.
