Dear veterans, front workers, children of war! My congratulations on Victory Day, one of the most important holidays in Russia!

Dear veterans, front workers, children of war! My congratulations on Victory Day, one of the most important holidays in Russia!

The 9th of May is a special day for all Russian people. This day unites all Russians with a memory of heroic deed of our grandfathers. We must remember what price was paid for it.

On May 9th Russians celebrate Victory Day for the Soviet Union’s defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II. This year will mark the seventy-fifth anniversary for Russia. The Red Army showed great courage and gave enormous sacrifice in defeating the Nazi’s in the Great Patriotic War.

The war against Nazi Germany, known in the Soviet Union as the Great Patriotic War, cost the Soviet people more than 27 million dead, both civilian and military. The country lost a third of its national wealth. The Great Patriotic War lasted 1418 days and nights, and finished with a crushing defeat of the aggressor.

Residents from the Vologda Region took part in all the battles and military operations in different sectors of the battlefront showing heroism and selflessness. This day honours almost 178,000 residents of the Vologda Oblast who died in the war.

On this day we remember the soldiers and officers who defended the freedom and independence of our Motherland, all those who forged victory in the rear, supplying the front with food and ammunition, and those who rebuilt the destroyed country in the difficult post-war years.

Russia commemorates the Soviet Union's victory over the Nazis each year on May 9 with a massive military display that sees thousands of troops and tanks parade through Red Square and military jets fly in formation over the capital. This year's parade was meant to be a major showcase, with veterans from all over Russia invited to watch and take part in events marking the 75th anniversary of Soviet victory in World War II.

Russian President Vladimir Putin postponed a landmark military parade as Russia struggles to contain the rapid spread of the coronavirus. The President noted that the traditional parade on Red Square and the procession of the "Immortal Regiment" will take place after the epidemiological situation in the country improves.

Veterans of the Great Patriotic War, wherever they live today, should know that we highly value their fortitude, courage and dedication to frontline brotherhood.

As the risks associated with the epidemic, whose peak has not passed yet, are extremely high, the festive programme including cultural and sports festivals, exhibitions, environmental actions, historical reconstructions, parades and rallies will be held later this year as soon as the coronavirus threat subsides.

Dear veterans, front workers, children of war! My sincere congratulations on Victory Day! I wish peace, good health and well-being to all the people!
