Dear residents of the Vologda Region! My congratulations on National Unity Day!
Unity Day is a national holiday in Russia held on November 4. This day has gone down in history as a day of unity of the people. Its origins go very far back to important events in the Russian history.
This holiday gives us an opportunity to feel like a united nation with a common historical destiny and a common future.
Russia has celebrated the National Unity Day as an official holiday since 2005. The date commemorates the events of 1612 when Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky formed volunteer corps that went on to liberate Moscow from the Polish-Lithuanian interventionist forces.
The holiday is linked with the heroic pages in the history of the Russian people; it implicates the idea of national consent, cohesion and unity, devotion to the Motherland, connection of generations, loyalty to the rich history and spiritual traditions in the multi-ethnic Russian state.
We are rightfully proud of our Motherland, its rich history and unique cultural heritage, centuries-old traditions, and the sense of patriotism and citizenship of Russians.
I wish you all the very best, good health, prosperity and peace!
Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov
