Blazon of the Vologda Oblast

The coat of arms of the Vologda Oblast is an official symbol of the region. It is a quadrangular escutcheon with rounded lower corners and a pointed end.

Against the red background one can see the right hand in golden clothes with a golden orb, decorated with jewels, and a silver sword with a golden sword - hilt. The hand appears out of the silver clouds. Above it there is the Russian imperial crown with blue ribbons flying.

The main elements of the blazon symbolize the following:

  • The right hand with a sword in it represents justice, court of law and advocacy of the Motherland;
  • The orb signifies power, State system, and rights of the Vologda Oblast as a subject of the Russian Federation;
  • The Russian imperial crown which is a traditional heraldic symbol of dignity and power represents a historic territorial status of the Vologda Oblast;
  • The colours signify strength, hardiness and valor (red), prosperity and might (golden), and nobility, light and purity (silver).
Flag of the Vologda Oblast

The flag of the Vologda Oblast presents itself as a white rectangular sheet with a red stripe opposite the pole extending all the width which constitutes one fifth length of the flag. It is of a 2 to 3 ratio in proportion. In the upper left-hand corner of the flag there is a blazon of the Oblast.
